Affordable Housing is Attainable

Affordable housing has been a major discussion in the state of North Carolina and specifically in Wake county.  Wake County reports, over 50,000 working families are currently unable to find affordable housing. To address this issue, a Steering Committee was created in Wake County to formulate an Affordable Housing Plan.   It is imperative that the town of Fuquay Varina places affordable housing options at the forefront of future development plans. The US Census Bureau reported that Fuquay Varina has a population of over 29,000 residents and of the 29,000 residents, 7.1%  of our residents have incomes that fall below the federal poverty line. While an amazing job has been done to provide diverse housing options, “diverse” does not equate to “affordable” or “attainable” housing. As Fuquay Varina continues to grow, the issue of affordable housing must be addressed, not only for our current and future residents, but for our educators, teachers, firefighters, and police officers who serve our community. Housing must be attainable by all. As an elected official , I will work with town staff, Planning Board Committee members, my fellow Fuquay Varina Commissioners,  and Wake County Commissioners to bring forth sustainable resolutions.
